ACC/RAPP Workshop - April 4

For this garden workshop we gathered growers from Americana & the Refugee Agricultural Partnership Project (RAPP) at the community garden behind New Heights Baptist, just south of Americana on Southside Drive.

The weather didn't quite cooperate with our plans in the end, but we did have time to learn about garden pests and proper management of our compost system before the rains came:

About our garden

The Community Garden at Americana has been an essential part of programming since 2006. Growers from all over the world come together to grow food for their families and to share with their community. "It's the whole world in 1/5th of an acre."

Many of our growers come from places where subsistence gardening is a way of life. Green space & gardening had to be sacrificed when they left home, especially when relocating to urban areas, but now Americana can offer them the option of gardening on our grounds. The community garden is an important asset to our community as a neighborhood gathering place, a resource for families to obtaining healthy food, and an outdoor education facility for our youth.
